 Indian Festivals

Indians celebrate life many times a year, in a great many ways. Festivals tend to have a religious overlay, even those that primarily mark the seasons or the harvest rather than a holy birth or a demon's death. However, they are occasions to loosen social divisions, get together, exchange gifts, wear new clothes, eat good food, dance, sing, have fun. The colours of holi, the arrayed lights of diwali, the enthusiasm of Id, the bonhomie of Christmas, the graceful vigour of Bihu and Dandiya dances, the floral patterns of Onam - any Indian festival is a mixture of physical exuberance and sublime unity of the human spirit.
