SUMMARY:Stand with Families of Tamils Disappeared by Sri Lanka
DESCRIPTION:We ask that you come together in solidarity with us and stand with families of Tamils disappeared by the Sri Lankan State as we mark International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30\, 2019. Please show your support by attending this very important event for international action. \nThe necessity to act with the utmost urgency to expose the abject failure of successive Sri Lankan governments to provide families searching for their loved ones with satisfactory answers\, cannot be overemphasized. \nThe time is NOW for international action to seek the truth of what happened to enforced disappeared Tamils in the North and East of the island of Sri Lanka in the Tamil homeland. It falls on each one of us to ask the international community to intervene by insisting on the need for an international investigation. \nWhile the ‘International Convention for the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance’ states the widespread or systematic practice of enforced disappearance constitutes a crime against humanity\, it must also undoubtedly be seen as Tamils all over the world including victim’s families see it\, as practice emblematic of acts constituting Genocide\, perpetrated against the Tamil people by the Sri Lankan state. \nThe TGTE for its part is committed to working to strengthen the fundamental human rights principles of the Right to Know and the Right to Truth and help bring closure to families of victims of enforced disappeared Tamils. \nDuring these dangerous times\, in the island of Sri Lanka\, your support for justice for victims would make the families feel that you care\, that they are not alone\, giving them the comfort and solace that they deserve. \nWe look forwards to seeing you. \nCommittee For International Action\nTransnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) \nFor further information please contact: \n+1 (647) 783-3466\n+1 (416) 766-9544\n+1(647) 262-5587\n+1(416) 830-4305
