Ajax dancer Aishwarya Dhanasekar can convey anger, happiness, shyness and dozens of other emotions by striking just the right pose.

The 16-year-old Ajax High School student dances Bharathanatyam, one of the four national dances of India and she is one of the many participants in the South Asian Heritage Festival being held in Ajax throughout May.

Aishwarya said she’s excited about sharing her vibrant culture.

“My dance is very graceful; it’s the classical dance of India and I’m very proud to know and master it,” she said, adding that she began dance when she was just six years old watching movies and copying the dancers before she was formally trained in just a matter of months, a record time.
